We make it a priority to learn something from every project we are involved in, and the lesson was quite clear from this gratifying collaborative accomplishment. That is… it takes a village to raise a child. Allow the talented people that you know and admire to contribute. As long as your clear vision is communicated to them, it is almost certain that their contributions will add to the project. Nurture your babies. In the day where media and mixtapes are being cranked out like machine gun bullets, the one true way to get your creation to stand out is through slow and deliberate progress. Set the bar high and take steady steps big and small toward it every day.
The concept for this music video began two years ago. SIMP, Q-San, Flux and I talked about it often. We brainstormed and experimented. We recorded and re-recorded verses. We adjusted the mix and arrangement until the song was just how we had envisioned it. We would often talk about how the video would look and feel, and decided to bring on the creative folks at Studio 8 to capture our vision. By the time the video’s production was scheduled, the concept was so deeply ingrained in the minds of those involved that it came together seamlessly. We knew exactly what we wanted going into production and had a detailed plan to carry it out… all without breaking the bank.
Sure… it takes money to put on a production like this, but not as much as you might think. We have all the resources we need to take our creative visions to full fruition when we pool our abilities, our ideas, our spare change and come together as a community. Let this video inspire you and be an example of what is possible when you take your time with a project and bring talent and brilliant minds together.
