ON THE BILL: ROCK MOST, PSYCHE ORIGAMI, and SOLILLAQUISTS OF SOUND
The evening started off as I stepped into the smoke free bar upstairs at Smiths Olde Bar on Midtown Atlanta. DJ Dainja was holding down the mix as the crowd gradually trickled in. After talking with some of the other hip hop heads in the room, showtime was upon us. Senor Kaos grabbed the mic and introduced the first performer of the evening. Rock Most took the stage with AmDex DJing and proceeded to do what we have come to expect from him… He Kilt it! Then Kaos and Methuzulah (formerly MOJO Swagger) joined him for a jam and the show went up yet another notch. And when Methuzulah slung out the Wolverine Claws, I could tell I was in for a damn good evening. BTW, If you haven’t heard Rock Most’s latest release F.L.O., go ahead and get on that. Many agree that it is his best work to date.
Then we moved on to the one and only Psyche Origami, who’s back in full force. I spoke with Sen. Bret Boogie of Transistor Fist after the show who said, “They played a lot of new material this evening and a few of our favorites from the past. It was great to see them rockin’ it the way the always have with DJs Dainja, Synthesis and Wyz on the microphone who was on the top of his game as usual, but it been a while since they’ve been out on the stages so it was really good to see them.”
Next to take the stage was Solillaquists of Sound…
Sen. Bret Boogie had this to say about them, “I’ve seen em’ numerous times over the years and they keep getting better, more progressive, more avant guard, and more out there every time. They are very comfortable in their own skin and that’s good to see, especially in the realm of hip hop where conformity seems to be the sorta of deciding factor on the quality. Luckily we are in a good venue with a good crowd that appreciates diversity.”
I was particularly blown away by the MPC mastery of Divinci, who laid down the entire instrumental bed for this riveting performance in a way that I have never seen done. Click here to learn more about this truly unique musical experience.
